Sharon Bass Biography

Thank you for your interest in my paintings! I have been blessed with a natural talent for art and grew up with a pencil / brush in my hand; often sketching views of the Smokey Blue Ridge mountains in my hometown of Asheville, NC. Awarded a full scholarship, I studied painting, photography and design at the School of Visual Arts (SVA) in New York City. After graduation, I pursued a career as a Designer and Art Director on the east coast with design firms in Manhattan, Boston, and Raleigh.

In 2008, I experienced a calling to leave my design career in order to pursue a full-time career in painting. As a Christian, this has been an amazing and sometimes difficult change filled with uncertainty. However, God is so faithful ...I now (finally) find myself having lots of FUN looking for my next painting! In the words of British author, George Elliot, “It is never too late to be what you might have been.” I am passionate about setting up an easel outdoors and painting on-location en plein air after the French impressionists.

I am very grateful to God, my husband and my family for their support of my work. The ‘Monet in Normandy’ exhibit at the NC Museum of Art (2007) has had a continuous impact on my vision and fascination with oil painting. In addition, Kyle Highsmith, a well known painter in Raleigh, NC, has been a wonderful mentor and friend.
