Margaret Hill Biography

Margaret B. Hill’s contemporary paintings are her interpretation of the color and mood within landscapes and in still life objects. She enjoys the beauty of the countryside, the plants and fruit of the Carolinas and beyond. She paints in oil on canvas and board using interesting combinations of color and composition. Her textures vary to add interest.

Throughout Hill’s career she has had many one person, two person and group shows in major galleries. The curator of Brookgreen Gardens has chosen her to display work in special exhibits and sell work at private auctions. Margaret has received acceptance and awards in many prestigious competitions including The Raleigh Fine Arts Society, The Watercolor Society of North Carolina and The North Carolina Museum of Art. She has been featured in magazines and newspaper publications.

The artist has taught art lessons and has enjoyed attending plein air workshops throughout the southern and western United States, Italy and France with prominent American artists. She also participated for years in art critiques with  Joe Coxe ( NC State School of Design ) , and Ben Williams (former curator of the North Carolina Museum of Art).

Margaret attended a summer plein air study in New England with Frank Mason of the New York City Art Student’s League. She feels very fortunate to have had close friendships and acquaintances with so many of  the generous and talented teachers in America.

Hill graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

She resides in Raleigh.
